Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

London | £50,000–£65,000 + benefits

Take ownership of your projects, with the support to develop beyond technical design. You’ll work directly with clients and have opportunities to join directors in meetings, seeing how they build trust, win work and maintain relationships.

For one engineer, watching a director meet potential clients was a standout experience. If you’ve had little exposure to that side of consultancy, this is a chance to build the commercial skills that help you progress.

Get regular site exposure, so you can see how your designs work in practice. Investigating existing services, answering questions and following installation will help you sharpen your judgement and become more confident in your decisions.

Have your workload reviewed every week. When engineers become stretched, work is redistributed across the team. The director wants people arriving refreshed, giving you more room for family, hobbies and evenings away from work.

Enjoy hybrid working and a team that doesn’t watch the clock. You’ll be trusted to manage your time and deliver, with flexibility around how you organise your working week.

Broaden your experience through a wider consultancy group, with opportunities to learn from specialists in sustainability, building performance, retrofit and digital engineering.

What you’ll do

• Lead mechanical projects from feasibility through construction.

• Build client relationships and coordinate project teams.

• Attend site surveys, inspections and design meetings.

• Oversee technical quality, budgets and delivery.

• Support junior engineers and contribute to winning work.

What you’ll need

• Recent UK building services consultancy experience.

• A relevant degree or industry qualification.

• Confidence leading projects and working with clients.

• Understanding of relevant regulations and other building services disciplines.
