About the Role

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

London | Benefits | Hybrid: 3 Days Office / 2 Home

£55,000 - £65,000

Maybe you’re delivering projects, managing your own workload, and used to being relied on. But how often are you actually given the space to lead, influence decisions, and see the full impact of your work?

It’s a different setup here.

You’ll join a consultancy built around trust. You’re not micromanaged or watched on the clock. You’re trusted to get on with the job, manage your time, and deliver properly. That flexibility matters. It gives you the headspace to focus, make better decisions, and take real ownership of your work.

The work itself is varied, spanning building services, heat networks and decarbonisation projects, with a steady flow of work and a team that plans ahead so people aren’t constantly firefighting.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll take the lead on mechanical design and project delivery, which means you’re not just contributing, you’re setting the direction. You’ll have a real say in how projects are approached and delivered, rather than following someone else’s decisions.

You’ll get full visibility of the project lifecycle, which is where the learning and satisfaction come from, seeing something through from early ideas to a finished, working solution.

You’ll keep everything aligned, coordinating across disciplines and stakeholders. It’s about balancing design, cost and programme so projects actually land well, not just technically but commercially and practically too.

You’ll help strengthen the team around you with your leadership and mentoring skills. You’ll also contribute to technical direction, influencing standards, approaches and how projects are delivered across the business.

Alongside that, you’ll be involved in design reviews, feasibility studies and technical documentation, giving you a say in early-stage thinking and ensuring what’s designed works in reality.

What You’ll Need

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Around 5+ years’ experience in mechanical design and project delivery
  • Strong understanding of district heating / heat networks and relevant standards
  • Confident working directly with clients and managing expectations
  • Solid knowledge of industry standards and delivering high-quality design
